#2 and #17

2. Are there any popular fandom OTPs you only BroTP?

Not really, possibly because I don’t draw much of a line between relationships that include sex and those that don’t in real life. Lachesis/Finn sticks out as a counterexample because we’ve all been talking about it recently, but even they didn’t have a stable relationship for very long and there clearly was something wanting that very well could have been sex and/or romance.

Wait, I’ve got one: Zelink from The Legend of Zelda. The fandom’s biggest OTP and one of Nintendo’s two biggest never-technically-canon-but-screw-it power couples, and yet I can see romantic potential in it for maybe two or three games at most – notwithstanding Link’s debatable self-insert status.

17. Instead of XYZ happening, I would have made ABC happen…

Ludicrous as it might sound, Tellius really would have been better served as a trilogy. FE10 might still be the single longest campaign in the series, but it’s got way too much story going on even for its length and the lategame suffers for it. I’d have had the second game be an interbellum centering around Radiant Dawn’s first two parts and possibly something else, like a laguz campaign to make them feel a bit less cut off from the center of the storytelling. The third game would be RD’s remaining two parts, further built up and given room to breathe.

It’s amazing what a game you don’t even play can do for your perceptions of certain characters, because now thanks to Heroes I’m fairly solidly invested in gay!Finn. As it concerns the remakes:

Best case scenario – Quan/Finn is canon while not invalidating Quan/Ethlin, and is presented as a mutual lover/beloved relationship that couldn’t be all that squicky even for the most puritanical slashers since I’m reasonably certain that there’s a smaller age gap there than there is between Leon and Valbar. Finn is removed from the breeding pool entirely, sacrificing a so-so Pursuit father with a likely nerfed Miracle and an awkward weapon inheritance situation for the sake of characterization. If they still want to include a parent in Gen 2 for the tactical possibilities there are other options, like Edain, Briggid (as Eyvel?), maybe Lewyn, or a wild card like Beowolf or Arden. He and Lachesis platonically co-parent Leif and Nanna, and it’s her yearning for her son and the lost relationship with the father of her children that sees her leave them. In the Thracia remake Glade either experimented with Finn or was actively involved with him before he got married, hence Selphina’s prickliness. So as to avoid making Finn into a less morally ambiguous Dumbledore figure, he finds himself unexpectedly acting as a mentor to Diarmuid and possibly other non-straight kids in a way that can wink at contemporary gay culture without feeling completely out of place for the setting. He doesn’t get a tidy happy gay ending – save that for the second generation – but he gets to see his lover’s son grow up to fulfill his father’s grand dream and maybe at last finds some kind of closure.

Worst case scenario – Quan/Ethlin is a copy+paste of Clive/Mathilda and Quan dotes on his protégé without ever getting it. Finn can still be paired up, and it’s all as vague and unfulfilling as in the original games. Finn doesn’t even get someone like Python to speak frankly with, at best having a bland camaraderie with Glade in the Thracia remake. He doesn’t get to be any kind of mentor either since no one in Gen 2 is pointedly not into breeding anymore (because they turn Diarmuid into an Inigo clone or something, because he’s “charming”). The “canon” parentage of Lachesis’s children remains up in the air, such that Finn can’t even be reasonably excluded from the debate. Finn’s ending is just as weird and largely unexplained as ever.

Yeah…it’s far too early to say how the people behind the remakes will spin this. Fingers crossed?

Jarod/Alder?

N/A: I don’t know the ship well enough

I’m not sure if anyone actually ships it, except possibly as a challenge or something. The material is certainly there, but it’s in that same highly unexpected way of Mycen/Rudolf in FE15. It might have been intended as foreshadowing for how Levail and Zelgius’s relationship will resolve itself, or something. I don’t know. Alder barely has a character which doesn’t help either.

i know that bagging on Catholicism has been in vogue for like the last 500 years in the Protestant world but like as far as “Christian traditions that are impossible to take seriously” Anglicanism really has to take the fucking cake…like “God has an emissary on Earth and it’s whosoever sits on England’s fanciest chair”
